Kite and Bike Festival
The Derby community has so many great bike paths and places to ride that we are celebrating with a number of activities at the Kite Festival. Dust off your bicycle and come enjoy bike activities at High Park. After all it’s healthy, it’s fun, it’s trending.
Pre-Fest
“Light the Night” Family Bike Ride, May 15
Decorate yourself and your bike and come out for a fun ride on the High Park paths. Get creative and light up the night with your bike. Decorations must allow participant to ride safely. Bring the whole family, it’s FREE.

Kite and Bike Fest, May 15, 2021
Coloring Contest
Join us at the coloring booth and color your best picture. Prizes to the best picture.
Bike Safety Check and Minor Repair
The Derby Health Collaborative and the Derby Bike Month Committee have volunteered to check over your bicycle to make sure it’s in good working condition. Minor repairs will be done on site. Tougher repairs may be referred to an area bicycle shop.
Times: Anytime between 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m.
Fee: FREE, no registration is required.
Location: High Park, North End
Bicycle Safety Town and Rodeo
Safety Town is a replica town with buildings and electronic traffic signals, including an area dedicated to railroad and school bus safety, designed to teach young children valuable pedestrian safety lessons. At the rodeo children learn basic safety precautions of crossing the street, riding a bicycle on the street, the dangers of railroad crossings and how to safely enter and exit a school bus.
Times: Anytime between 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Fee: FREE, no registration is required.

The Bicycle Showcase Parade
Join us for a ragtag gathering of a aficionados, collectors, artists and the curious, who want to show their ordinary, unique and crazy variety of bicycles. Bring your ordinary bikes, art bikes, vintage bikes, custom wackadoodle bikes with multiple frames and handlebars, unicycles, recumbents and trikes. Plan to stay at least an hour and join in on the parade around High Park. Feel free to dress up you and/or your bicycle.
Dates/Times: 1:00 p.m. (Showcase parade to start at 1:30 pm)

Tour De Derby 
Join us for Tour De Derby . The Derby Mayor will lead this free, self-supported family friendly ride. Riders (and families) can ride as much or as little as they’d like. Choose the family in-lot ride, the 10 mile in town ride or the 35 mile county ride. (In the case of inclement weather, the ride will be cancelled.)
Dates/Times: Departs as group at 2:30 p.m.

Kite Fest Kid’s Bicycle Races
Hey kids, bring your bicycle to the Kite Festival and join in on the kids race. Awards will be given to the top 3 in each category. Helmets required.
6th-8th Grade Boys / Girls 3:00 pm 1 mile
4th-5th Grade Boys / Girls 3:15 pm 1 mile
2nd-3rd Grade Boys / Girls 3:30 pm .50 mile
K-1st Grade Boys / Girls 3:45 pm .25 mile

Post Fest
Derby Skate Park BMX Challenge, May 16
Emery Park BMX is coming to the Derby Skate Park. Emery Park provides competitive BMX racing for boys, girls and adults from ages 3 to 50+. BMX racing is an individual sport and is designed to build self-confidence and self-esteem in anyone who participates. Come see and learn more about the sport of BMX.
Dates/Times: Sunday, May 16, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Fee: Free, no registration is required.
Location: Derby Skate Park
